Immersion Abstract Oil and Acrylic
The Concept
In what perspective do you choose to immerse yourself? We may choose the beauty of the ocean, watching the seaweed washed by the waves, looking deep down at the plants that grow on the ocean floor or breathing the salty sea foam, blown up by the wind. We may choose to focus on its imperfections; the muggy or polluted waters or the dull grey skies above that reflect onto the surface. We may choose to focus on our ego-selves, noticing our intermittent reflection in the slivers of calm water that briefly emerge amidst the waves. Life is a choice and the perspective we immerse ourselves in becomes our reality and everything in that perspective is reflected back into our lives. Choose the infinite beauty and perfection of nature; choose the quagmire and turmoil in our world; choose our ego selves and or choose differently. What do you choose?

Sarah Diggins is a conceptual, experimental artist and aims to create works that translate the unseen.
Immersion is a translation of the frequencies of the perspectives in which we choose to immerse ourselves. It was painted on cardboard to represent the imperfections in the world. It was painted with mixed media to represent the ethereal beauty of the ocean and then sliced to reveal the ego self.
Sarah says: "For years I have been aware of the importance of the concept that underlies my work. 90% of my artwork is created before I even start painting. During the course of my MA studies I have been encouraged to include this concept as part of the painting information. Three decades of working in marketing made me see this a little differently and so I decided to give value to QR codes and include them as part of the artwork. I realise that artists have previously painted QR codes but I wanted to go one step further and print and embed the QR code within my work. Immersion is the first enactment of this vision"
