From the Perspective of an Oyster Shell

From the Perspective of an Oyster Shell was created in a way an oyster shell is created, with beautiful iridescent, textured layers that reflect the light.  An oyster lives its life immersed in sea water and can only distinguish light and dark, so no colours were used. Eventually the shell is washed up on the beach where it lies in the sand and pebbles, reflecting the sunlight, with the waves washing over it and sea water pooling and accumulating in its shell. The painting was created with textured iridescent media, using an oyster shell to move the paint. Then it was washed in water, with the water being allowed to pool on the canvas. To create this work, the artist became one with the oyster shell to enable the perspective of the oyster to become embedded into the canvas.
